Sigma Theta Psi is a multicultural, academic, and social sorority. The sorority was founded at San Jose State University in 1991. Sigma Theta Psi is known for their work with breast cancer awareness as their philanthropy, and the Zeta Chapter at CSUMB has also adopted alcohol awareness as a second philanthropy. Sigma Theta Psi members also strive to live by the means of honesty, loyalty, respect, open mindedness, leadership and academic excellence.
The purpose of the Corporation is to form a relationship amongst a group of individuals who will carry on a lifetime friendship with each other. They will create a special bond and learn to grow spiritually. This Corporation will serve as a support group, educationally and emotionally. In addition, it will provide social and community involvement opportunities for the group.
