Join us for a special HSI Week edition of Glowga — a glow-in-the-dark yoga experience led by Val, infused with spanish music. As part of the experience, attendees are invited to paint themselves in the colors of their flags, honoring their roots and expressing cultural pride through art and movement.

Join us for a morning of connection, culture, and community as part of CSUMB’s HSI Week celebration! Enjoy delicious breakfast tacos while engaging in meaningful conversation with local community members and CSUMB alumni. This special event centers on sharing dichos, cultural sayings and words of wisdom passed down through generations, especially those rooted in the first-generation college experience.

Enjoy a special HSI-inspired dinner at the Dining Commons with delicious Latin American dishes celebrating Hispanic heritage. Grab a friend and dance to lively Mariachi music. Lastly, stop by our DIY table, where you can learn how to make your own pickled jalapeños to take home.

Join us for a special screening of The Unspoken Sky, a film inspired by the life and work of acclaimed author and educator Francisco Jiménez.
Francisco Jiménez emigrated from Tlaquepaque, Mexico, to California as a child, working alongside his family in the fields. His powerful stories about migration, identity, and perseverance have received national recognition, including the John Steinbeck Award, the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award, the Américas Award, and the Pura Belpré Honor. His four-book series is celebrated as one of the 50 Best Young Adult Books of All Time by the American Library Association.

Join us for an informative and empowering discussion focused on supporting undocumented students in our communities. This event will cover inclusive language to avoid and language to use when speaking about immigration and undocumented experiences. We’ll review policy basics such as DACA, AB 540, and in-state tuition eligibility to build your understanding of the resources available to students. Participants will also learn ways to be a stronger ally, advocate for equity, and help create undocu-friendly spaces. Come ready to learn, ask questions, and stand in solidarity! Together, we can ensure no student feels alone.

Celebrate the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua by centering the voices and stories of Central American community members. Join us for a panel where individuals will share their personal experiences, the challenges they’ve faced, and the successes they’ve achieved as part of Central American communities here.

Join El Centro for a special keynote by renowned HSI scholar, Dra. Gina Ann Garcia. Dra. Garcia is a public scholar and advocate for equity in higher education. Her research explores what it truly means for colleges and universities to "serve" Latine/x students—not just enroll them. Grounded in her original theories of change, she works to disrupt the status quo and build transformative futures for Hispanic Serving Institutions. Lunch will also be provided for those in attendance for the Keynote.
