We invite you to participate in a unique opportunity to design the official CCPMC Challenge Coin.
This is your chance to combine creativity, storytelling, and a commitment to community service in a design that reflects the mission and values of the CCPMC. Your artwork can become a lasting symbol of hope, perseverance, and the pursuit of justice.
The CCPMC is dedicated to bringing answers, resolution, and support to families affected by unsolved crimes. Through your design, you can help honor victims, recognize those who serve, and inspire continued efforts to seek the truth.
Whether you're an experienced artist or simply passionate about making a difference, we encourage you to submit your vision. Together, we can create a meaningful emblem that represents compassion, collaboration, and the unwavering commitment to finding answers.

What is a Challenge Coin?
A challenge coin is a meaningful commemorative medallion that reflects the identity, mission, and values of an organization. Our inaugural coin will be presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to our mission whether through financial support, volunteer service, professional expertise, or other meaningful acts that help advance cold case investigations.
What is the Cold Case Project of Monterey County?
The Cold Case Project of Monterey County is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the use of advanced technology and scientific methodologies to help solve cold cases. We work in partnership with local law enforcement agencies throughout Monterey County to ensure that promising investigative tools and evidence testing opportunities are not limited by agency budgetary constraints. Entry Details
Eligibility: Students, Faculty and Staff of California State University Monterey Bay.
Contest period: August 18, 2026-August 30, 2026. All submissions must be received no later than 5pm PST. Submissions to kern@coldcasesmonterey.org
Selection: The winning submission will be chosen by the Board of Directors of the Cold Case Project of Monterey County(CCPMC). The submission must be able to be replicated on a Challenge Coin and in mass. Decision of winning submission will be reached no later than September 30, 2026.
Prize details: A cash prize of $250 will be presented to the winning submitter. Taxes will be the responsibility of the recipient. The waiver of assignment and transfer must be signed prior to receiving the cash prize of $250.
Privacy: We will keep your personal information confidential with the exception of disclosing your name and picture(photograph) for reasons of publicity. Please submit your name, email address and phone number as part of your submission so we may contact you.
Publicity: It is our intention to recognize the designer through media coverage and/or community advertising highlighting their contribution to this important project. We may utilize the winning design, or close facsimile to reproduce the Challenge Coin. The design may also be used in CCPMC marketing, social media, public relations materials and on our website.

Original Work and Intellectual Property
We love creativity and want to celebrate your original ideas! By submitting a design, you confirm that your work is your own original creation or that you have permission to use any content created by someone else.
Please make sure your submission does not copy or violate anyone else's copyrights, trademarks, patents, or other intellectual property rights. If you include any third-party materials, you are responsible for making sure you have the appropriate permission to use them.
The selected design will be forwarded to a manufacturer and may undergo minor modifications to ensure it can be reproduced successfully at scale.
Use of Your Submission and Award for the winning submission
As a condition of the challenge, the winning submitter, will be required to sign a waiver to assign and transfer all rights, title, and interest in your submission, including all related intellectual property rights, to the Cold Case Project of Monterey County, to the extent permitted by applicable law. This allows us to use, modify, share, publish, display, and build upon your design in any format or medium, now or in the future, without additional compensation.
If any additional paperwork is needed to complete this transfer, you agree to sign it upon request.
Your Responsibility
By submitting your design, you confirm that everything you have followed these guidelines.
Review of Submissions
To keep the challenge fair for everyone, the Cold Case Project of Monterey County may remove or disqualify any submission that appears to be copied, violates these guidelines, or infringes on another person's rights. Organizers reserve the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the contest under limited circumstances.
