Paris is Burning (1990) is a documentary showcasing the real life experience of black and Latine trans and queer people as they navigate New York City in the 1980s. The trans identity in the 60s up till now was not recognized or fully embraced by the queer community - because of this trans and drag performers created an underground world of their own through ballroom culture.
This film serves as an exposure to students to the world of vogue and ballroom, as well as vital moments in queer history that we want to highlight during LGBTQ history month. As well as fostering conversation afterwards.
